True Repentance for True Revival: A Sunday Preview

Join Pastor Josh Massaro as he previews the upcoming Sunday sermon at Middletown Baptist Church, focusing on the theme of true repentance and its vital role in achieving revival. The sermon, titled "Real Repentance for Revival," will delve into the distinction between godly sorrow that leads to salvation and worldly sorrow that results in death, as outlined in Second Corinthians 7:10. Pastor Josh emphasizes that genuine repentance is essential for experiencing new life and hope in our spiritual journeys. He encourages listeners to reflect on their own lives in light of God's standards and recognize their need for His grace. Whether attending in person or tuning in through the live stream, Pastor Josh invites everyone to engage with this important message of transformation and renewal.

The upcoming sermon at Middletown Baptist Church on November 17th, 2024, promises to be a transformative experience as Pastor Josh Massaro previews the critical theme of repentance as it relates to revival. Drawing from Second Corinthians, particularly Chapter 7, Pastor Josh will tackle the profound implications of godly sorrow versus worldly sorrow. His message is rooted in the understanding that true revival is unattainable without genuine repentance, a core tenet of Christian faith that speaks to the heart of individual and communal spiritual health.

Throughout his preview, Pastor Josh emphasizes that biblical repentance is not simply an emotional reaction to wrongdoing, but a significant change in direction—an intentional turning away from sin towards God. He highlights the necessity of recognizing one's faults and the importance of feeling genuine sorrow that leads to salvation and hope. This godly sorrow, as defined in Scripture, brings about a transformative process that reorients believers toward a life that reflects God's glory and grace. In contrast, he warns against the superficial sorrow that leads only to despair and death, urging listeners to seek the life-giving repentance that the Bible advocates.

Pastor Josh's invitation to the congregation is not just to attend the sermon but to engage deeply with the message of repentance and revival. Whether participating in person or through online streaming, he encourages everyone to open their hearts to God’s truth and grace. Pastor Josh:

Pastor Josh here.

Pastor Josh:

I would like to give you a preview of our Sunday morning service on November 17th here at Middletown Baptist Church.

Pastor Josh:

We're going to be continuing on in our sermon series looking at Second Corinthians.

Pastor Josh:

We're going to be in Second Corinthians, chapter seven.

Pastor Josh:

The name of the sermon on Sunday will be the real repentance for revival.

Pastor Josh:

Real repentance for revival.

Pastor Josh:

And we're going to be discussing what the Bible says is true repentance.

Pastor Josh:

The Bible says that there is a type of repentance that can be a selfish, focused, sorry that we've been caught kind of feeling.

Pastor Josh:

And then there's biblical repentance.

Pastor Josh:

Biblical repentance is a change in direction, a turning away from something and a turning to God.

Pastor Josh:

And what we can see in Scripture is that we can't have revival, that new life, that new hope without that repentance.

Pastor Josh:

The key verse that we're going to be studying on Sunday is Second Corinthians, chapter 7, verse 10.

Pastor Josh:

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation, not to be repented of, but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Pastor Josh:

So we're going to talk about the two different types of sorrow.

Pastor Josh:

You have the godly sorrow, which brings to repentance, which brings to salvation, which brings to hope.

Pastor Josh:

And then you have the sorrow of the world, which worketh into death, as it says, or produces death.

Pastor Josh:

And so we're going to talk about the difference between those two things, and we're going to look at what the Bible says true repentance is, which leads to true revival.

Pastor Josh:

We all want revival in our land.

Pastor Josh:

We want revival in our church.

Pastor Josh:

We want revival in our life.

Pastor Josh:

But the Bible does say that that starts with repentance.

Pastor Josh:

That starts with godly sorrow.

Pastor Josh:

That starts with the truth of God and being revealed to us in our lives and honestly looking and measuring ourselves up to the standard of God, which we know that we fall short of the glory of God.

Pastor Josh:

But yet we see how much more we need the grace of God in our lives.

Pastor Josh:

And so encourage you to follow along with us on Sunday if you're able to be with us in person.

Pastor Josh:

We'd love to see you.

Pastor Josh:

But if you're not able to be with us in person, we will post the sermon on Monday morning here on the podcast.

Pastor Josh:

And also we'll be live streaming on YouTube and Facebook Sunday morning.

Pastor Josh:

Well, thank you so much for listening.

Pastor Josh:

We're looking forward to seeing you soon.

Pastor Josh:

Have a great weekend.
